Week 13: April 26- 30

This week I was not in class at all. I have a lot to catch up on!!! Attached this week are the posters and programmes for Soothfest. Here's a schedule of the show dates and times:

Friday was a PD day so I worked all day on decorating the Elk's lodge - making it look like a "hollywood red carpet" themed room.

The plays were adjudicated by Sharon Sproule.

Awards were as follows (that pertained to me):

PEER RECOGNITION AWARD (Chosen by the Adjudicator's Assistant) - The Cast of Impromptu for commanding attention during the blackouts - Korah

Week 12: April 19-23

This week was a lot of repetitiveness. I worked on my speads every day - grad write-ups take a while to type up! I also am very close to done my "green" spread. I also began the carboard boat/dragon boat spread - just setting up the bakground and title because I know I'll need those soon enough. On the Thursday of this week Mr. Wrigley rode his bike to school (for earth day) which is an insanely long bike ride that I wouldn't even attempt. During class he rode around in the bus depot and the class took pictures of him while fixing our shutter speed and aperture to make it so that he was the only thing in focus and to make it look like he was going "really really fast".

There was a lot to get done this week for soothfest. I think by next week I'll have my lines memorised. My show is on WEDNESDAY!!! and the one that I directed is on Tuesday. Its going to be a long week, but completely worth it.

Week 11: April 12-16

This week we leaned a lot about shutter speed an aperture and what we can do with each. Mostly on Monday and Tuesday we worked on learning online with shutter speeds. This week I also worked on my blog post, and my "Photography TIPS!". This week we also had a quiz on photography terms - based off of a sheet Mr. Wrigley gave us last week. I also worked a lot on the grad spreads for yearbook... getting there! Almost done! I took a short little break from those this week to work a little on a "green" spread (Earth Hour and Earth Day).

Class this week was a blur. I had too much work to do for Soothfest... finishing the posters and programmes... sewing costumes back together... making props (like money sacks, and crowns)... rehearsing after school... memorizing my lines... the list goes on and on. It will be worth it in the end though. This week I moved back into my house. I'm living there now with NO KITCHEN or sitting area or anything. The only use-able part of the house is my Mom's room where I'm staying. AAH. Let this madness end!!! I have to have fast food every night for dinner, because I don't even have cutlery and dishes - never mind a microwave or toaster oven. I can't wait until its finished.

Week 10: April 6-9

This week went by in a blur. With Soothfest just around the corner (in 2 weeks), I had to feverishly rehearse my lines - and try to memorize them. In good news, I think I may have finished the programmes and posters?! I'll attach the final copies in a few weeks. :)



Monday we had no school because of Easter Monday. This weekend was strange, too. Yeah, sure, we had Easter dinner... with my mom's boyfriend's parents - because they were getting back from their trip to Florida. It was an interesting dinner. I'm still staying at my mom's boyfriend's place - our house is still not ready! I hope it will be done soon though.. our poor dog Rusty has to be in a kennel because my mom's boyfriend's parents (the landlords of his house) won't allow any kind of pet - no matter the circumstances. LAME.



In CLASS this week we continued work on our spreads, as well as learned these terms:

Pixel-the smallest element of a digitized image.
Byte-a tiny amount of computer data.
LCD-Liquid Crystal Display.
Depth of Field-refers to the part of your picture that is in focus

WYSIWYG-what you see is what you get.



I'm pretty sure the last one isn't a technical term.. but Hey! You never know!

Week 9: March 29- April 1

This week was a very informative week as far as photography was concerned. We learned a lot about an Optical Digital Zoom

We learned that optical zoom are lenses that have many focal lengths within their zoom range, and that digital zoom is basically cropping a photo- making it smaller to only include what you want it to, and therefore an optical zoom is better because the resolution will be better. And then there is the Telephoto Lens, which is in which the physical length of the lens is shorter than the focal length of the lens.

The top ten tip of the week for taking better photos was "lock the focus", and so we looked into depth of feild, and how to make an object stand out by using focus. (* for a photo example, please see the post "Photography TIPS!".

I began typing out some of the things for the Grad spreads this week, but I couldn't actually start with them until Wade finished converting them to CMYK instead of RGB, which they were in. This week I also gave Mr. Wrigley the idea of doing a photo montage for class as part of an assignment (which was turned into an assignment, where we had to pick our favourite photos and turn them into a "photo template" on inDesign - some of them look really good!

This week we also critiqued the Earth Hour photos as a class, and explained why a good photo is good, or why a bad photo was bad. I found that out of the entire class, I take the most photos! I learned to take a ton of photos because as statistics show, only one in ten photos is good. (or use-able, for whatever it was taken for).

NOT in class this week, I applied for close to a million scholarships (and will hopefully recieve one, or two!), and worked on things for Soothfest (which is an acting festival for youth, located here, at Korah). I am in one play directed by Dan O'Brien for Soothfest (Impromptu), and I am co-directing one play with Mrs. Gasparelli (Picture Perfect). I found out that I'm making the programmes and posters for both shows! Yay!

Tomorrow is Good Friday, which means NO SCHOOL! I get to work on stuff at home, like cleaning, and dry-walling, maybe if I'm lucky I'll get to hang out with some friends.. who knows!?

Week 8: March 22-26

This week I was away for MONDAY & TUESDAY because I was away an extra day for March Break (Monday) and then on Tuesday I was away because I had to burn 200 DVDs for The Sault Symphony Orchestra's Sound of Music. I have a business with my mom called "Applause Entertainment". We do a lot of things: Birthday Parties (With themes), Video Editing and filming (For Dance Recitals, Weddings, Plays, Audition Videos, Good-bye photo montages, etc.), Dance and other entertainment-based apparel (Such as dance costumes, mascots, cheerleading outfits, figure skating costumes, costumes for plays, etc.), Accessories (Jewellery, Hair Elastics, etc.), Face Painting (for events and parties), etc.

This week we worked on our spreads. Mostly, I worked on properly alphebetising the grad yearbook write-ups, and made sure I had all of them that I was given. This FRIDAY we had an "Earth Hour" assignment where we had to take pictures of the school on the hour when we shut off all the lights in the school to commemerate EARTH DAY and EARTH HOUR.

We also did an assignment with feathering on photoshop. I have attached this photo, as well as a couple of my favourite Earth Day Photos.

Week 7: March 15-19 MARCH BREAK!

March Break! March Break! March Break!

This week was an awesome week!

It began of course, with me packing my room up, to finally get the walls in my room dry-walled. FINALLY. When I get back, we should be able to paint my room... Can't wait for it! My room should look great.. but I can't wait for the rest of the house to be DONE. Construction is TOUGH!!!!

So, the beginning of the week consisted of me packing my room up totally, and then packing my bags to leave for Ottawa U and Toronto! My mom, My brother, My mom's boyfriend and I left for Ottawa on Wednesday after they finished work. After dropping our cocker spaniel (Rusty) off at Garcons Kennel, we were off! We attempted to stop for a Hotel 10:30 at night in Sudbury, only to find out that there was a HOCKEY Tournament, ad there were NO available hotels or motels in the entire city with rooms. So we kept driving, checking every little town until we were approx. an hour away from Ottawa where we found a VACANT motel. After going to bed at 3:00am, we woke up at 8 and left for Ottawa at around 10:30am, after a breakfast. Attached are some pictures of visiting the Parliament buildings.

After ourday of looking around, we went to our Ottawa hotel, and retired for bed. In the morning, we spent an entire day at the Ottawa University spring open house, and when that was all over (at around 5pm) we started the drive to Toronto where we get to spend time with our grandparents. Awesome!
